a glass waits for a name to be spoken.

She walks in like a story no one finished,
all in french coat and tired poetry.

The saxophone sighs in the corner,
a voice like a match scratching the dark.

The bartender does not ask,
just pours,
like this is a church and whiskey is holy.

Someone hums a tune that died in the 50-s,
and for a moment,
the past slips back into its seat.

The door swings open,
lets the night lean in,
but she is already gone,
leaving only the echo
of her voice.
