Vladimir Vasilievich talks about visiting the NKVD in 1937. A story.

Vladimir Vasilievich talks about visiting the NKVD in 1937. A story.

Vladimir Vasilievich was born in 1930. So there was little he could remember about 1937.

But, from time to time, in the family circle, he returned to the story about 1937.

1937 - in this story it is a conditional notion. It would be more accurate to say "epoch, period of 1937". But, due to the lack of accurate documents nearby, it remains to use the notion of "1937".

In 1937, Vasily Alexandrovich, the father of Vladimir Vasilyevich, apparently already several years parted with the army service.

During the period of civil life (after completing military service), he received a higher education. It seems that after starting work at the State Bank, after receiving a university degree, he continued his career in the construction industry.

In Rostov, he continued to communicate with one of his colleagues. A colleague was repeatedly mentioned in stories as a regiment commander. Naturally, his positions changed over time, but for convenience - in this story - he will be called "regiment commander".

Vasily Alexandrovich and the regiment commander were from the same locality, from the same region, that is, they were fellow countrymen.

They went through the First World War together and then served together after 1917.

Together, after 1917, they put in their documents the social origin "from peasants". In fact, it probably was so - how did their life in their native places differ from the work of ordinary peasants? By the worldview? By the thirst for knowledge? By the pursuit to get an education?

In some ways, they were different people.

Vasily Alexandrovich was indifferent to military exploits, preferring a properly organized service (orders [distribution of duties], patrols, reconnaissance, setting up a guard posts, properly organized guard service, taking care of soldiers, food supply, etc.). He was indifferent to moving up the career ladder, to obtaining of military ranks. (For example, it seems, during the Second World War, he received the rank of major, but the documents were allegedly lost; he did not make any attempts to find them, he was completely satisfied with the rank of "captain"). Vasily Alexandrovich was far from politics - to the extent that it was possible.

The regiment commander was a man of a different kind. It seems that he was close to the Socialist-Revolutionaries for a long time, supported the Provisional Government in some notable forms, and after 1917 he joined the Communist Party.

In 1937, a detailed document with information about his career growth and about his political activity was attached to his case. In the 90s of the 20th century, a photocopy of this document was made, and it was possible to get acquainted with it.

After the arrest of the regiment commander in 1937, Vasily Aleksandrovich visited the NKVD Directorate for the Rostov Oblast several times, where he declared the regiment commander's complete innocence of any crimes against the Soviet state and that he vouched for his former commander.

The crime, apparently, was political views, past political activity, and not a specific deeds.

During his next visit to the NKVD, the investigator told Vasily Aleksandrovich that if he came there again, he would not be released from there.

The regiment commander left this world.

Vladimir Vasilyevich's stories about 1937 created a gloomy mood, and one day somebody of the family members decided to speak out: what if, having learned about Vasily Alexandrovich's honesty (moral qualities) and about his devotion to a friend and countryman (to the commander of the regiment), "there" decided to incorporate Vasily Alexandrovich into their collective, and in this sense "would not let him out"?

Vladimir Vasilyevich sadly fell silent in response to these words ...
