Vladimir Vasilievich and Vuchetich. A historical note.

Vladimir Vasilievich and Vuchetich. A historical note.

A portion of memories of Yevgeny Vuchetich, the famous sculptor, spilled out in the media.

On this occasion, I remembered the following story.

Once, in the 30s of the 20th century, even before the outbreak of the Second World War (theoretically, 1940 is not excluded), Evgeny Vuchetich lived as a guest in the apartment of Vladimir Vasilievich's parents - Vasily Alexandrovich and Josefa (Józefa) (Yuzefa) Adamovna. Vladimir Vasilievich did not mention anything about payment by Vuchetich. Maybe, for some reason, Vuchetich lived for free (if he was placed according to some bureaucratic scheme). Or maybe he was paying the rent, but borscht was an act of charity? - Now, you can't to know ...

Under what circumstances Vuchetich was placed in their apartment - Vladimir Vasilievich did not explain this. Perhaps he himself did not know these details. Vuchetich lived for a rather long, noticeable period ...

Josefa Adamovna was preparing quite high-quality and tasty food for the family and for Vuchetich, and Vuchetich did not express any complaints about living in their apartment. He was praising the food. When Vuchetich left, they parted quite benevolently, amicably and respectfully.

After the Second World War, after completing his studies at the institution Vladimir Vasilievich went from Rostov-on-Don on a business trip to Moscow. Year of the trip is unknown, - in nowadays.

Vladimir Vasilievich's mother, Yuzefa Adamovna, remembered how Yevgeny Vuchetich praised borschts of her preparation and she instructed Vladimir Vasilievich to phone Vuchetich and to remind Vuchetich of acquaintance. [borscht - is a type of soup, dish]

In the post-war period, Vuchetich became famous person and looked like an influential figure.

In Rostov-on-Don, a phone call to Vuchetich seemed an easy thing.

However, upon arriving in Moscow, Vladimir Vasilievich discovered that there was not Vuchetich's surname and his phone number in any telephone directory.

A lot of persistent attempts were made, and, finally, a person came into contact with Vladimir Vasilievich. The person was, apparently, from the secret service.

The man asked why Vladimir Vasilievich needed Vuchetich. He explained that Vuchetich was an old acquaintance, and he would like to talk to him.

The man gave Vuchetich's phone number.

Vladimir Vasilievich made a call. They talked about something with Vuchetch. Vladimir Vasilievich did not call him again. The emphasis in this story was on how seriously Vuchetich's phone number was classified.

The story struck me as strange. I clarified: how, in what way, did the conversation end?

A little embarrassed, Vladimir Vasilievich said that when Vuchetich picked up the phone and heard Vladimir Vasilievich, he immediately remembered their family and the life in their apartment in Rostov-on-Don (and, maybe, borschts).

Then there was a pause. Maybe the pause was not that long? Maybe it was necessary to wait for its completion? And a kind invitation from Vuchetich would follow.

He, Vuchetich, ate borschts in the family of Vladimir Vasilievich. Now he, Vuchetich, as a man of European origin, invites Vladimir Vasilievich and treats him with a dinner in return ...

However, Moscow residents sometimes suffered in relation to the provincials with a certain fear - what if the provincials were counting on Moscow residents' housing as a place to stay in the capital (instead of a hotel) ...

One way or another, the pause seemed to Vladimir Vasilievich too long (what it really was - no one can say for sure. What was Vuchetich doing on the other end of the line? - he was not visible ...).

Vladimir Vasilievich said goodbye and hung up.

Could Vuchetich have been useful to Vladimir Vasilievich? This is unlikely. But the acquaintance itself would be interesting. And it was not so difficult to send a postcard for the New Year and for his birthday to Vuchetich.

The acquaintance, in any case, was, if not particularly useful, at least not harmful.

Vuchetich had the opportunity to return the debt of a courtesy.

But Vuchetich was not to blame either. The length of the pause is not regulated by the customs of politeness (there are only internal sensations and assessments; but they are very imprecise and approximate). And the conversation was ended on the initiative of Vladimir Vasilievich.

In general, there was such a biographical fact.

[explanation: Vladimir - name; Vasilievich - is a patronymic (kind of a second name), not a surname]

P.S. After writing this note, I took a look in Wikipedia. '... In 1926 he [Vuchetich] entered the Rostov Art School, where he studied until 1930'... 'On the advice of the architect V. A. Shchuko, with whom the sculptor worked together in Rostov-on-Don (project of the Drama Theater named after M. Gorky, 1930-1936), Vuchetich moved to Moscow in 1935 ... "
