Marshal's baton of Jean Lannes in the fairy tale "The Three Fat Men". A story.

The most unknown Russial historian came to Moscow from St. Petersburg to acquire a rare baton of Napoleonic marshal Jean Lannes.

After the successful celebration of the bicentenary of the Battle of Borodino and after the corresponding magnificent historical reconstruction (which the historian led and in which he personally participated), the historian easily settled with one of his Moscow acquaintances - a lover of historical reconstructions.

However, the historian's sleep before the acquiring the marshal's baton was not calm.

He dreamed (he saw in his dream) that he and his young de facto wife were being cut to pieces. And some people look at this "fun" performance from behind the curtains on the third floor and laugh happily.

Then he is dragged on a lasso (uurga) to a large Moscow square. In the square, a hired actor dances on the body of the historian and laughs.

And persons from behind the curtains continue to watch at all this and to laugh.

The historian woke up in a bad mood.

Where did the lasso (uurga) come from into his dream? He, historian, is the leader of Russial Napoleonic studies. And in the history of Napoleonic deeds and accomplishments, the lasso (uurga) has not been detected.

The historian went out into the street early in the morning - to take a walk.

The streets were almost empty. The shops are closed.

But flower stalls - they worked around the clock.

In one of the stalls, the historian saw something unusual - black tulips.

In general, he was not particularly interested in flowers, but now these black tulips caught his attention, and he bought several pieces to get a better look at them.

The historian recalled up that the famous (Polish, Russian) Soviet writer Yury Olesha, who once wrote The Three Fat Men, ended his writing career at some point, but continued to be listed as a writer. He had to occupy himself with something. Yury Olesha was getting up early in the morning and walked randomly around Moscow to improve own health.

Looking at the black tulips and thinking about the writer Olesha, the historian began to walk around Moscow.

  Moscow was already waking up.

Suddenly, the historian saw one of the participants in the movement of historical reconstruction, and with this lover of reconstructions there was an activist from the Kosti-NF radio station.

The three of them continued the walk.

During the walk they saw the entrance to the famous Moscow cemetery.

The historian decided to come in. The one of the watchmen was a member of the movement of historical reconstruction.

Two satellites of the historian went with him.

They walked along one alley, along another one.

The historian is tired of carrying black tulips with him - he has already examined them.

  A notable grave. A monument.

The historian laid a bouquet of black tulips on the grave.

  They left the cemetery.

  The historian's mood improved.

He put himself in order and went to the scheduled meeting about the sale and purchase of Jean Lannes' marshal's baton.

  The deal went well.

The historian was (and is) a connoisseur of the French language. He repeatedly worked in the French archives and periodically taught at one of the prestigious French universities. The historian was the frequent visitor to France and the Mediterranean coast. On the same day he presented (as a gift) the marshal's baton to one of the French dignitaries. This man was in Moscow on an official visit.

Naturally, an expertise of the marshal's baton was required - to certify its authenticity.

The next day, the historian discovered that he was at the center of a noisy scandal.

An activist of the Kosti-NF radio station took photographs at the time of laying black tulips at one of the graves and prepared a report on this action.

The act was considered as ambiguous by both officials and activists from the public sphere. If flowers are laid, then without frills, in any case, not the black tulips.

The historian was fired from the university.

Then a certain 'yesterday student' appeared, whose guardians (patrons) ordered a publishing company ("writers' firm") to write a book about the Patriotic War of 1812. The yesterday student was recorded (indicated) as the author of the book.

This yesterday student began to baiting (to harass) the leader of Russial Napoleonic studies. Interestingly, this yesterday student looked like one of the participants in the torment - from that very terrible dream.

Somewhere in the subtle plans (spheres), the historian seemed to see smiling faces watching the persecution (baiting, harass) from behind the curtains.

Fortunately, the news came that the expertise of the marshal's baton of Jean Lannes was completed. The baton's authenticity has been confirmed.

On this occasion, publications appeared in France.

The historian made an attempt and probed the possibility of moving to France - to engage in teaching and scientific activities there.

He sent his young de facto wife to the French archives to find and study handwritten texts of Marshal Jean Lannes.

He charmed of girls-students - during lectures at a French university.

Life has come back to normal.

The terrible dream did not come true.

And the persecution (baiting), and the 'yesterday student' who was supposed to dance on the body of a historian after the historian ran on a lasso (uurga) through Moscow streets, and the smiling faces behind the curtains, - everything is left in a dream and in the past.

Maybe the spirit of Yury Olesha helped? Or the spirit of Marshal Lannes? May be, of Napoleon himself?

One thing remains a historical mystery - where did the Marshal's baton of Jean Lannes come from in Russia?

This question became the subject of a doctoral dissertation by the historian's young wife. The dissertation was prepared on the basis of materials from the Paris archives.
