Flowers and Wolves. From the stories about the Politburo.
The Minister of Subculture, who is also a candidate for membership in the Politburo, received a huge bouquet of flowers and four large cardboard boxes filled with delicious southern melons. It happened three months ago.
After this gift, he received large shipments of the fruit from the generous Soviet south (various varieties of grapes, of pears, and of other delicious fruits) every week. Each weekly shipment of gifts was accompanied by a bouquet of flowers.
There were so many southern gifts that the Minister of Subculture not only personally became healthier, but also provided all his closest relatives with the right food.
The Minister ate the gifts with ever greater pleasure and he thought more and more deeply.
It is important not to miss.
At last, information came that a famous poet and singer (along with his wife from France) had made an appointment [enrolled for reception to talk] with him, the Minister.
The meeting did not take place twice due to circumstances beyond the Minister's control, but the famous singer continued to make appointments (to enroll for reception): the famous singer needed his songs to be released by Melodiya company. And this issue was within the competence of the Minister of Subculture.
Naturally, information about the attempts of the famous singer and poet reached other Politburo figures.
And then the right day, the right moment came - when it was impossible to miss.
The British "Beatles" were "pressing". It was necessary for our, Soviet culture, to have its say. Naturally, the south fruits could not be forgotten.
On the agenda of the Politburo (among other points) was the issue of the work of modern Soviet singers.
The Minister of Subculture has prepared well for the consideration of this issue. However, when he saw a watermelon seed stuck to the sole of one of the oldest party members, he calmed down. His anxiety and excitement disappeared.
The chairman announces a question about modern singers.
A specially invited employee of the General Department of the Central Committee turns on the tape recorder. A melodic ballad plays. The members of the Politburo listen with pleasure. They even dozed off a little to the calm music and the lulling voices of the performers.
The melodic song came to finish.
The Minister of Subculture explains: it was our Soviet students from an elite capital university who created the ensemble. At first, the students leaned towards the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, but then they switched to our famous poets and composers G., F., D. ...
"These poets and composers are State Prize winners, aren't they?" The oldest and most authoritative member of the Politburo (with a watermelon seed stuck to the sole of his shoe) asks a clarifying question.
.
"G. has been nominated for the Lenin Prize! All these creative people are outstanding representatives of the advanced multinational Soviet culture!" - the Minister of Subculture explains.
The members of the Politburo nod favorably, an approval is visible on their faces.
The invited employee of the General Department of the Central Committee turns on the tape recorder again. A song about wolves and hunters can be heard.
The chairman's face turns purple: "What is this!!? Is this about a hunting!!? We... recently... in Zavidovo!..." The chairman chokes with indignation.
The faces of the Politburo members turn purple with anger.
"This singer performs songs of his own composition, he does not attract to his creativity our outstanding composers and poets!" - the Minister of Subculture informs the members of the Politburo.
"I ask, comrades, to make a decision. I believe it would be appropriate to allow the publication of songs by our talented Moscow students on Melodiya records, to consider it appropriate after some time to give a series of favorable publications in the general cultural, party and state press, to open access to television, to allow the creation of a theater (musical) with the allocation of premises in the center of the capital, to recommend that local philharmonic organizations provide all possible assistance," - the Minister of Subculture suggests.
"Approve! To approve!"
"As for the author of the song about wolves, then..." - the Minister of Subculture continues.
The faces of the Politburo members turn purple. The chairman takes a glass of water, takes a sip, takes out and swallows a pill.
"Comrades! I suggest to instruct the General Department of the Central Committee to inform the director of the Melodiya company by telephone (orally) about the decisions made today!" - the Minister of Subculture continues.
"To instruct! To give an assignment! That's right!"
The Politburo meeting is over.
The next day, the Minister of Subculture kindly meets the famous singer and his wife (she's from France) in his office.
Is it happened really? How? The songs of this popular singer get stuck in the Melodiya company?! Only one record was released! The other songs are not published for some reason! It can't be! It's outrageous!
The Minister of Subculture is making phone calls to all the responsible persons, gives each one a good scolding. Things will move forward. The popular singer needn't worry! All his songs will soon be released by Melodiya company! The state will receive a large income, and the famous and popular singer will receive a huge fee!
The Minister returns home (to the state dacha) after a working day.
Another gift has arrived. This time it is a bouquet of flowers and several copies of a flexible record released by Melodiya.
The Minister breathes a sigh of relief. Everything is in order. Everyone is happy! Everything was done correctly, the matter went off without a hitch! He puts the bouquet on the table and throws the flexible records into the trash can.
The Minister turns on the tape recorder. He inserts a cassette with a fresh recording of a song by a popular singer. The song is about a dark enchanted forest and oaks-sorcerers.
Copies of the most fresh recordings are delivered to the Minister out of a studio organized by a revolutionary from Iran (he is also a commercial representative of one of the Western firms). It's a man who lives with taste! Although he married a Russian model, he walks along the beach in Sochi surrounded by harems (which composed of Moscow girls). A rich man, he patronizes the arts - he provided a recording studio to a popular singer. From this studio, new songs are sent to the right addresses and are distributed (spontaneously, by means of wide re-recording, on tape cassettes) among the broad masses of people. Art belongs to the people! Money is an evil. Money spoils people!
The Minister of Subculture listens to a new song: it's a talented song!
"Forgive us, Volodya! Such thing is a life! Pushkin - he didn't write about Mozart and Salieri for nothing!" "As the French say: Pourquoi pas? (Why not?)" "You will remain in the history of our culture!"
The Minister eats a piece of delicious fresh southern melon and picks a couple of ripe berries from a bunch of excellent southern grapes.
