Maybe, my city does not look as majestic as, for example, London, Paris or Rome to a foreigner's mind, but this is because a lot of them have got accustomed to seeing grandeur only in vast castles, architectural masterpieces and others. To see the true Kiev you must look at it through your heart and, in addition, through the prism of history...
Kiev is one of the most ancient cities in the Northern Europe. (It is more than 1500 years old, that is much older than Moscow and, if I am not mistaken, older than London) For a long period of time Kiev was the centre of political and cultural life in Eastern Europe. In the IX-XII centuries it was the capital of one of the mightiest and the most powerful Kingdom - Kiev Russ. Even later, when it had fallen under the domination of other countries, it often became the centre of rebellions, riots and disobedience. Something like that was happened one year ago, when Kiev became the centre of people's discontent and protest against excesses and outrages of Ukrainian government.
But despite all of these facts, people in Kiev are not as belligerent, rude and blunt as it might seem at first. On the contrary, they are friendly, communicative and broad-minded. In fact, there are a lot of parks, green areas, where everyone can have a rest, taking pleasure in the singing of the birds and closeness to nature. Personally, I like Mariyinskiy Park the most with its magnificent palace.
Besides, there are a lot of places of entertainments in Kiev. The nightlife is well-developed. There are many various clubs, cafИs, restaurants, museums, theatres, cinemas etc. And there is only one place which I do not like to visit - outskirts like Troeshina, Borshagovka, Kharkivskiy Massiv and others dormitory areas.
Sure, Kiev is not as bright as, for example, Las-Vegas but it has its own charm and attractiveness.
